Skai Moore commits to Rutgers

12/12/2012

Three-star linebacker Skai Moore (Davie, Fla./University School) committed to Rutgers on Tuesday over Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, TCU and South Florida.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound senior is the 22nd verbal commitment in Rutgers’ class and will join teammate Nick Internicola as the program starts Big Ten play in a year.

"I’ve somewhat known for a little while now but I didn’t want to do it during the state run and cause any distractions," Moore said. "But I’ve always had a great relationship with the coaching staff and the players. The move to the Big Ten is a plus and playing with Nick is a great bonus."

Moore had a top three of Rutgers, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest for several months before new offers forced him to re-think his situation.

Ohio State and Wisconsin offered last month, and Moore took an official to Wisconsin in mid-November. He planned on taking one to Ohio State on Nov. 24, but had to cancel it. TCU, led by defensive coordinator Randy Shannon, also entered the picture late.

Rutgers, however, was out in front from the beginning. A visit from defensive coordinator Robb Smith and linebackers coach Dave Cohen was all Moore needed to seal the deal.

"It’s just a good feeling and all the coaches were happy," Moore said. "Coach [Kyle] Flood was real happy. He said I made the right decision and made his night."

Moore ended his senior season leading University School to a Class 3A state championship last Saturday. He had a game-high 14 tackles and a sack in the victory over Madison County. He will take his official visit to Rutgers on Jan. 18.
