High three-star linebacker Dominic Zanca-McDonald (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lake Brantley) decommitted from Tennessee in favor of Duke, multiple sources report. He is the first Volunteers recruit to decommit following the program's coaching change.
Zanca-McDonald, a 6-foot-1, 240-pound senior, also held a scholarship offer from Purdue. He officially visited the Boilermakers on Nov. 23. Programs such as Florida International and Missouri showed interest.
ESPN describes him as "very productive lining up as an 'off' linebacker and a defensive lineman playing with his hand in the dirt; is undersized for the defensive end position, however he has the size and athleticism for the outside linebacker position at the major level of competition... may need some time to perfect coverage skills. However, if a redshirt year isn't deemed necessary, early playing time is a possibility."
Duke now has 16 verbals and Tennessee is down to 17.
