Three-star defensive tackle Hunter Knighton (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School) committed to the Miami Hurricanes fresh off his official visit.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pound lineman picked up the phone and called the Hurricanes coaching staff to let them know of his decision. And it was met with a positive response.
"Coach [Al] Golden was extremely happy and he congratulated me," Knighton said of the reactions.
It isn't a stretch to say none of this would have happened without the official visit. Knighton had his doubts about Miami and he needed to figure out if it was a good fit for him.
It didn't take long. Shortly after the visit's beginning, he had his answer.
"Yeah, the biggest question I had coming in was how I was going to fit in," he said. "And from the first few hours, I knew that wouldn't be a problem at all."
Knighton had previously taken official visits to Boston College, Boise State and Purdue. Army, Buffalo, Connecticut, Navy, Northwestern, Rutgers, USF, Temple, Tulane and West Virginia had all offered, too.
But he's finished with the process. Knighton is headed to Miami, and sooner rather than later.
"I am done," he said. "I want to enroll early."
