Copiah-Lincoln Community College (Wesson, Miss.) wide receiver De'Vante Scott is on board with the Blazers, according to AL.com. He was in Birmginham, Ala., for an official visit this weekend.
Scott, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound prospect, originally committed to Mississippi State in 2011 as a three-star prospect out of Ferriday (La.) High School. He was committed to the Bulldogs for 2013 but suffered a season-ending torn ACL this fall.
"They [Mississippi State] didn't tell me, but they told my head coach that they weren't going to offer me [after the injury]," Scott said. "That's why nobody else was really offering me. I had a couple more schools still wanting me, but I chose UAB. They gave me a second chance. Talking to the coaches, I feel real comfortable."
Coming out of high school, ESPN called Scott, "an explosive, versatile athlete that is an ideal spread offense playmaker ... is a kid that has the tools to potentially be looked at as a corner as well, but he has natural ball skills and will likely end up on offense in college."
