Little Rock (Ark.) Pulaski Academy tight end Hunter Henry has accepted he is the face of Arkansas’ 2013 recruiting class.
Henry, who is 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, is ranked No. 106 in the ESPN 150 and is by far the highest-ranked prospect pledged to the Razorbacks.
When Arkansas was going through early season troubles, rumors swirled about Henry looking elsewhere. He admits to looking, but he also admits he has never thought about decommitting from Arkansas.
Following his first conversation with Arkansas coach Bret Bielema on Wednesday, Henry reiterates he is still with the Razorbacks.
“He’s a very personable coach,” Henry said. “He seems like a real good guy to me. I have nothing but positive things to say from our first talk.”
Like a lot of other Arkansas commits, Henry was shocked to hear Bielema was named coach Tuesday night. With all the names circulating out there, Bielema wasn’t one that had been in the conversation.
Tight end, however, has been a position of success for Bielema with the Badgers. And it’s something Bielema brought up to Henry.
“He told me his last six tight ends have gone on to the NFL,” Henry said. “He talked a lot about the past tight end success he has had and how he wants me to be a big part of the offense.”
Henry said he is still keeping the door open to other schools, most notably Alabama, but he cannot wait to meet Bielema in person for the first time.
“It was a great hire,” Henry said. “It’s great for the program and great for the state. He’s going to bring in a new system that’s going to get players and the fans fired up.”
Henry, an Under Armour All-American, said his conversation with Bielema was a short one and that his in-home visit with the Arkansas staff has not been arranged. But after talking with Bielema, Henry said the sooner the better for the visit so he can get to know his new coach even better.
