Defensive back Charles Okonkwo (Fontana, Calif./Summit) took his first official visit this past weekend and came away impressed by what he saw from the Nevada Wolfpack.
Though Nevada dropped a hard-fought game against Boise State, Okonkwo said he had an opportunity to experience the stadium on a game day, which left an impression.
"It lived up to what I expected," he said. "The atmosphere was really intense. The fans were really crazy and showed a lot of Wolfpack pride. That was good to see."
The 6-foot-1, 171-pound athlete said he had a great time on the trip and got along well with the players and coaching staff, including cornerbacks coach James Ward, who would be his position coach if he were to sign with Nevada.
"They want me to play corner," he said. "They run a lot of man coverage and that's what I like to play."
Following the trip, Okonkwo said he would like to use the rest of his official visits before signing day. He said Boise State, Fresno State and San Diego State are likely destinations. He added that while he doesn't have a date in mind to make a commitment, he would like to do it before signing day, and said he is looking for something specific in his school of choice.
"I'm just looking for a family atmosphere," he said. "How the team clicks together -- that's what is going to put one school at the top."
