Since Northwestern first began showing interest in Marcus McShepard (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) last spring, the Wildcats were always the team to beat for the senior cornerback.
Now, Northwestern will be his future team. McShepard committed to Northwestern while on an official visit with the Wildcats on Sunday, he told ESPN.com in a text message.
McShepard picked up the offer from the Wildcats in November and quickly set up an official visit. He said last week a commitment would likely come during his visit.
“That’s the dream school, basically that’s been the place I wanted to go to since I’ve been in high school,” he said in November. “And the fact they offered me as soon as they got my ACT, it shows they’re interested. If that feels like the place for me when I visit then I’ll commit.”
McShepard added a Penn State offer last week and has a visit scheduled for next weekend. It's unknown whether he will make that visit or an official visit to Illinois the weekend of Dec. 14.
