Luke Fickell talks enough Xs and Os during the season to fill up an entire warehouse of chalkboards.
On Wednesday, the Ohio State linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator just wanted to spend a little down time with Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett).
Fickell was at the ESPN 150 inside linebacker’s high school and then made an in-house visit with Johnson, but it was more about quality time and less about football.
“Coach Fickell came down and probably spent two hours at school and then had an in-home visit tonight,” Central Gwinnett coach Todd Wofford said. “It was a great visit for him. It really wasn’t like a recruiting visit.
“They were shooting the breeze with each other. They talked a little bit about football. They talked a little about everything.”
According to Wofford, Fickell indicated he planned on returning next week to resume talks with the recent Auburn decommit, who went on an official visit to Ohio State last weekend.
Johnson recorded 139 tackles this season with three sacks and 16 quarterback hurries. He also forced 4 fumbles and had an interception.
As a junior, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound Johnson made 164 tackles -- 24 for loss -- and pocketed 6 sacks.
