Parker Cothren (Hazel Green, Ala./Hazel Green) is now set to become a Nittany Lion.
The two-star defensive tackle confirmed in a text late Tuesday night that he decommitted from Purdue and committed to Penn State shortly after his official visit this past weekend. He said he was won over by Penn State's atmosphere and the bond he felt with defensive line coach Larry Johnson.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pound prospect becomes the 13th commitment of the Class of 2013, and he's the first defensive tackle to pledge to PSU.
The commitment was a whirlwind one for Cothren. He earned a scholarship offer earlier this month and decided less than week ago to attend the Penn State-Indiana game. He already watched the Nittany Lions once before -- when he saw them take on Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.
He said that visit to Purdue actually helped instill some interest in PSU. And his older brother ended up submitting Cothren's senior-season film to the school shortly after.
Despite the sanctions, he's the third Penn State commit in this class to defect from one school to become a Nittany Lion.
