The Ball State coaches were a little surprised to see Elijah Bell (Akron, Ohio/Buchtel) make the drive from Northeast Ohio to Muncie, Ind., for a midweek game, but they sure were happy to see the senior receiver.
“It was great. They loved me, couldn’t believe I came out there,” Bell said.
While Bell does not have an offer from the Cardinals, he is getting the vibe one could come in the near future.
“They’re talking big things, said they’re coming to the school in a week-and-a-half and could offer me,” Bell said. “… They said I’m a big receiver, a fast receiver, it’d be a great fit for me to be at their program.”
The 6-foot-1, 196-pound Bell has offers from Air Force, Boston College, Fordham and Morgan State and has heard from Illinois and Temple lately. He talked with the Owls coaches for the first time this week.
“I talked to the wide receiver coach [Ryan Day],” Bell said. “He was excited to talk to me. I was talking to the whole coaching staff over the phone.”
Illinois talked with the coaches at Buchtel and will take a look at his senior film.
Ball State is among Bell’s favorites along with West Virginia, Morgan State and Kent State, which he visited recently.
“There should be an offer coming soon. I went to their game last week and my cousin Norman Wolfe is a cornerback there. He came out of Buchtel and is starting. They throw the ball a lot, and if I figure if I go there I’d probably be the man,” Bell said laughing.
Bell has not set any official visits.
