Despite receiving a scholarship offer after the second game of his junior season, cornerback Dominique Fenstermacher (Tempe, Ariz./Marcos De Niza) has largely been shielded from the recruiting process. Even that offer, from Arizona, didn't come directly from the Wildcats' coaches.

"It was a letter, and my mom actually got it," he said. "She called me because I was on the way to the Arizona game. She was pretty calm about it, for the most part. But it was really random, so I asked her if she was sure she knew what she was talking about."

As it turns out, his mother did know what she was talking about, and so did the Arizona coaches, as Fenstermacher went on to put together a tremendous junior year. Heading into a semifinal game against Tucson (Ariz.) Ironwood Ridge, he has 43 tackles, one sack and 14 passes defensed. Fenstermacher also played a big role in getting the Padres to this point in the playoffs, as he registered three interceptions -- doubling his season total -- in a quarterfinal win last week.
