A first-team All-Catholic selection in southeast Pennsylvania, 2014 athlete Dashawn Darden (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara), is now on to grabbing the attention of college coaches.
Several programs have already taken notice of the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Darden, who plays quarterback for O’Hara. He threw for 1,607 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior and rushed for three more.
Darden reports interest from Boston College, Memphis, NC State, Ohio, Rutgers, Syracuse and West Virginia. He will also make a visit to Temple this coming weekend with teammate Thadd Smith, who has an offer from Rutgers and Temple.
“I’ve been there before but this is my first time going on a visit,” he said. “Hopefully I get an offer.”
Darden said Boston College is showing him the most interest, sending him mail daily and reaching out to him on Facebook several times.
“They’ve been telling me about their games and how they’re doing,” Darden said. “I sent my highlight tape and said he enjoyed watching it.”
On Nov. 17, Darden will go with Smith to West Virginia, which is the visit he is most looking forward to. Darden is a big West Virginia fan.
“That’s where I want to go to college,” he said. “They’re a good team and Geno Smith is a great QB. … I been watching them since I was younger when they had Pat White and like the offense they run.”
