Jaryd Jones-Smith has shown some hints as to which schools lead for his services, but that's about it.
The 6-foot-6, 313-pound offensive tackle from Philadelphia (Pa.) West Catholic maintained this week he has no finalists. Jones-Smith took an official visit to Virginia on October 12. He said he liked the Cavaliers' location, educational offerings and coaching staff.
He then took an unofficial visit to Pittsburgh on Oct. 27 to see the Panthers hammer Temple 47-17. Like the trip to Virginia, the visit made an impact.
"The way the team played and all the energy in the locker room," Jones-Smith stated via Facebook message when asked what stood out about the trip.
Jones-Smith won't take anymore visits until after the season. He said he'll definitely take an official visit back to Pittsburgh. He'll also take an official visit to North Carolina State and maybe Central Florida. He said he's fond of the coaching staff at UCF. As for North Carolina State, Jones-Smith said he likes the location and coaching staff.
So for those trying to predict the future, Pitt, Virginia and N.C. State seem in good shape, while UCF is hanging in there. The other schools that have offered Jones-Smith a scholarship -- Arizona, Villanova and Temple -- have some work to do. Securing an official visit would be a good first step.
