Visit is productive for '14 TE Bryce Dixon

Junior tight end Bryce Dixon (Ventura, Calif./St. Bonaventure) figured this weekend's unofficial visit to UCLA was more about the Bruins getting his teammate, 2015 quarterback Ricky Town, to the Rose Bowl and around the Bruins coaches. But Dixon learned after the game that there was more to it than that, as the Bruins extended a scholarship offer to the the 6-foot-4, 228-pound standout.

"I did not expect that," he said. "That was a surprise."

It was a pleasant surprise for Dixon, who had an opportunity to watch UCLA tight end Joseph Fauria catch 5 passes for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns.

"I like the way they use No. 8," Dixon said of Fauria. "They put him out at wide receiver, in the slot and down at tight end. They were talking about using me like that. I think that would be a great fit."

It has been a fast-paced fall for Dixon, who hauled in offers from Arizona, California, Colorado, Miami, Ohio State and Washington, before the most recent offer from UCLA. He also took unofficial visit to Miami and Arizona previously. The Arizona visit took place last weekend, as the Wildcats defeated USC. That win factored into Dixon's excitement at receiving the UCLA offer.

"Last weekend I saw how Arizona beat USC, and UCLA just destroyed Arizona," he said. "That's a real good school. They have a lot of potential."

Dixon said he would like to take unofficial visits to see games at Stanford and USC this season, although he hasn't spoken to either staff about finding a weekend that would work. He said he is doing his best to keep all recruiting-related matter confined to the weekends, as he and the Seraphs are preparing for the playoffs.

"We're a good team right now, but there's always room for improvement," he said. "We have the whole week to prepare for our next game. I'm holding out to get into recruiting until the end of the season. I'm just focused on high school right now."
