2014 DB Derrick Dixon stepping up

The Texas high school football playoffs are approaching, and 2014 defensive back Derrick Dixon (Dallas/Skyline) is in the process of turning his game up a notch.

Dixon has been a steady contributor for Skyline’s secondary, accounting for 31 tackles, three pass deflections, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. Offensively, he doesn’t get many touches, but when he rushes, he makes things happen. He’s rushed nine times for 131 yards -- a 14.6 yards-per-carry average -- and three touchdowns.

It’s an attitude that seems to be contagious for a Skyline team that were 90 seconds from advancing to last year’s Texas Class 5A Division I state championship. Skyline lost to eventual state champion Southlake (Texas) Carroll after being ahead by 10 in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter.
