Three-star cornerback Chad Davis (Richmond, Texas/Bush) has several offers and several other schools showing high interest, but one school in particular is making a push to ultimately win the sweepstakes.
Davis said Minnesota has shown major interest in previous weeks. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound cornerback doesn’t has an offer from the Golden Gophers, but one could be on the way very in the near future. He’s been in constant contact with Minnesota defensive backs coach Jay Sawvel.
“We’ve been talking for three weeks now,” Davis said. “He came out to the [Richmond, Texas] Travis game to see me play. He thought really highly of me. He said he wants to build a relationship, and he feels an offer will come soon.”
Davis has offers from Texas Tech, North Texas, Tulsa, Texas State and a few other programs, but an offer from Minnesota -- because of the conference it plays in -- would hold weight if he were to get it.
“[Minnesota] is a Big Ten team,” Davis said. “I always felt highly of that conference, because I really feel the style of play is similar to the NFL.”
Davis said in addition to Minnesota, he is still receiving calls from TCU. Davis said the Horned Frogs have been discussing coming to watch him play in his final regular-season game against Fort Bend Hightower. Davis was an unofficial visitor at the TCU-Virginia game on Sept. 22.
Where he ends up will not be decided by proximity. Davis said location is not a problem, which makes Minnesota an interesting topic of discussion.
“Moving from home was never a big issue for me,” Davis said. “I know it’s pretty far, but I would like to take a visit and just get a better feel about things out there. I heard it’s a great metropolitan area.”
