After taking an official visit this past week to Utah, quarterback Brandon Cox (Pasadena, Calif./Pasadena) had seen enough to know that he wants to see more. The Arizona commitment announced Wednesday that he spoke with the Wildcats coaches and they decided together that there was reason for him to reopen his recruitment.
"We both decided it would be better for me to step back and look at all my options and find my true decision of what I want to do," Cox said. "It's something I've been thinking about for a while. Arizona didn't really want me to take visits, but I knew I wanted to go out and see other places and enjoy the whole recruiting process."
Arizona remains in the picture as a possible destination, but the 6-foot-2, 184-pound quarterback added that he'd like to take a closer look at Maryland on an official visit and could take one to Colorado as well. A new school in the picture is Utah, which offered Cox a scholarship while he was on campus.
"It was great," Cox said of the visit. "I liked the place, the people are nice and the atmosphere is wonderful. They offered me a scholarship while I was up there and that was unexpected. It was a great trip overall."
Cox said he is unsure of his next step, as he hasn't scheduled any additional visits. He said he'll take things one day at a time, which coincides with his rehab schedule. Cox has been sidelined for much of the season after he broke the fifth metatarsal bone during Pasadena's second game.
"I'm walking again, so that's good," Cox said. "I'm starting the rehab process now and just trying to get back as soon as possible."
