Things are going well for New Orleans Edna Karr cornerback Noel Ellis these days.
His team is No. 2 in the latest Louisiana Sports Writer Association's Class 4A state poll, with a win already notched against another top-five team, No. 4 Salmen. Ellis, a 2013 Texas A&M commitment, is making the most of his team's effort, contributing in several ways.
In Edna Karr's most recent victory, a 26-7 win over Helen Cox, Ellis returned an interception and a kickoff for a touchdown. In the key win over Salmen in late September, Ellis intercepted a pass and recovered two fumbles, including one that he took 59 yards for a touchdown.
"I'm playing all over the field," Ellis said. "On defense, I'm playing both safety and cornerback and it's allowing me to make a lot of plays on the field. It feels good because I know that I can do it, I can make the plays and it just feels good that I'm helping the team out."
His squad is undefeated, and Ellis is part of a defense that has allowed just 27 points in five games, an average of 5.4 points per game, including two shutouts.
"Just playing smart, aggressive and shutting our opponents down," he said.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound prospect is getting most of his work at cornerback but also has seen some time at safety, and of course, on special teams.
As for the recruiting process, Ellis said he hasn't heard from any schools recently other than Texas A&M and that he has pretty much stopped listening to others.
"Yeah, I shut it down," he said. "I'm solid to A&M."
Ellis, who is ranked 162nd in the ESPN 300, said he has liked what he has seen from the 4-1 Aggies thus far.
"I like what they're doing," he said. "They bounced back after the loss to Florida. They're doing real good right now."
Ellis was in attendance for the Florida game but won't be able to make the upcoming LSU tilt because Edna Karr has a game that day. He said he plans to take his official visit when the Aggies host Missouri on Nov. 24.
