Wisconsin is currently near the bottom of the Big Ten in pass efficiency defense and really needed to focus on bringing in a good cornerback class to build for the future. The Badgers went into Florida, where they have had success before at the position, for one of the quicker cover guys in the state.
Sojourn Shelton (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Plantation) may be small and we do question his ability to set the edge versus some of the more prominent Big Ten rushing teams, but as more offenses are utilizing versions of the spread set, there is a need for pure cover guys. Shelton has great foot-speed and transitional skills and may be the ideal coverage Nickel for the Badgers who can play over the slot with his space quickness, fluid hips and change-of-direction movements. He does a really good job in off-man coverages mirroring a receiver tightly off the line and out of his breaks with the closing burst to decrease separation quickly.
