Virginia Tech, quiet for over a month on the trail, has added a verbal from running back / athlete Daniel Reid (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale), multiple sources report.
According to the Daily Press, the 6-foot, 205-pound senior chose Virginia Tech over South Florida.
Boston College, North Carolina, Temple, Central Florida and West Virginia also extended scholarship offers to Reid. Notre Dame and West Virginia were among the other programs showing interest.
The Hokies now have 18 pledges in their nationally-ranked Class of 2013.
