Recently, Vanderbilt picked up a commitment from Mike Tyler (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), a physical and high-motor developmental defensive end prospect. They already had a verbal from Landon Stokes (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep), another D-end who needs some development, but a kid I like a lot and feel possesses nice upside. Thursday, The Commodores picked up their highest profile commitment along the defensive line with a verbal from ESPN 300 defender Jay Woods (Jackson, Ga.).
The four-star defensive tackle has some work to do as well as he needs to improve on the little things, but he is a little more ready to contribute and demonstrates the tools to grow into a strong player in the trenches for Vandy. He is capable of quickly getting off the ball and can be a disruptive presence at times. He needs to be more consistent with his technique, but demonstrates the ability to be a tough run defender as well as a handful as an interior pass rusher.
Woods is a very good pick-up for Vandy as he gives them a talented and promising D-Tackle prospect and while the impact may not be immediately felt he joins/leads a group of D-Line prospects that could develop into a strong unit.
