Maryland is next stop for WR Deon Long

August, 16, 2012
The Terps have received a commitment from Iowa Western Community College wide receiver Deon Long, according to multiple sources.

Long originally signed with West Virginia in 2009 as a three-star prospect out of Washington (D.C.) Dunbar High School. At that time, ESPN described him as "a darn good football player who is not getting the national recognition he should be. Long not only has good size and straight-line speed, but he catches absolutely everything thrown his way and his ability to extend and pluck on the move is exceptional."

He was forced to spend a post-graduate year at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., and eventually ended up at New Mexico before transferring in January to IWCC. Last fall with the Lobos, Long caught 47 passes for 809 yards and four touchdowns and was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year.
