Thursday marks the start of the 2012 Texas State 7-on-7 Championships, and 128 teams – 64 in two divisions – will be on display at Texas A&M gunning for the coveted summer title of top 7-on-7 team.

Division I will include Class 4A and 5A teams, while Division II will include the Class A, 2A and 3A teams. The teams are divided into 16 groups of four, and each team will play three pool-play games. The top two teams in each pool will advanced to championship-bracket play.

The Division II championship is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT Friday. The Division I title game is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT Saturday. DeSoto (Texas) won the Division I championship, and Melissa (Texas) won the Division II crown last year.

Here are 20 players, in alphabetical order, to watch throughout the weekend.

  • 2014 DB Jamal Adams (Carrollton, Texas/Hebron): Adams is fresh off attending the Alabama camp and is looking to take the lessons learned there and apply them in a big-game environment. Adams currently is balancing offers from Baylor, TCU, West Virginia, Notre Dame and Kentucky.
  • 2013 WR Marcell Ateman (Wylie, Texas/Wylie East): When Wylie East needs a big play in 7-on-7, they turn to Ateman, a tall, physical option at receiver. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Oklahoma State commit has been a go-to player all throughout the 7-on-7 season.
