Mountaineers add Jersey running back

7/10/2012

Rising senior ball-carrier Zaire Williams (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) became the eighth Class of 2013 verbal for West Virginia, according to the Courier Post.

“I love the facilities, the town, the people. The fan base is great,” Williams said. “I felt at home when I was there. It’s where I feel most comfortable. Once I got the offer, West Virginia was definitely in my top five.”

UConn, Delaware, Iowa, Old Dominion, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Temple and Wisconsin also extended scholarship offers to the 5-foot-11, 190-pound prospect. Boston College and Rutgers showed interest.

“I’m coming in to work hard. That’s what I was raised on,” said Williams, who was forced to wait until West Virginia's April spring game for his first FBS offer. “You earn what you get. Freshman year, I’m going to work hard and study hard."

Last fall at Cherokee High School (Marlton, N.J.), he rushed for 1,621 yards and 29 touchdowns, including 1,233 yards and 16 touchdowns in the final five contests.

Before his junior year, Williams registered a 4.93 40-yard dash, 4.50 20-yard shuttle and 32.9-inch vertical on the combine circuit.
