Three-star offensive tackle Alex Mayes (Van Alstyne, Texas/Van Alstyne) ended his recruiting process with a Big Ten commitment on Monday. He also gave one school its first commitment in four months.
Mayes verbally committed to Minnesota and became the Golden Gophers’ second commitment of the 2013 recruiting class. He joined three-star cornerback Keelon Brookins (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan), who committed in February.
A 6-foot-5, 280-pound tackle, Mayes chose Minnesota over offers from Colorado and Kansas State. He also had offers from Colorado State, Arkansas State, Kansas, Texas State and a few other programs.
