Red Raiders get two junior college DBs

The football website for College of the Sequoias (Visalia, Calif.) brags about having 162 of the 182 players since 2005 earn four-year scholarships. Defensive backs Stormy Butler and Darren Doston will continue the trend.

Butler and Doston both announced their verbal commitments to Texas Tech on Wednesday. The junior college standouts, both originally from Florida, became the sixth and seventh commitments of the Red Raiders’ 2013 recruiting class. Butler and Doston, who were recruited by Texas Tech cornerbacks coach John Lovett, also are the Red Raiders’ first out-of-state commitments in the class.

Butler, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety, is a versatile defender who can line up as either a safety or outside linebacker. A product of Coral Springs Charter in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Butler is the younger brother of Darius Butler, a cornerback for the Carolina Panthers.
