The big news for South Carolina’s 2013 class is that they landed four-star quarterback Connor Mitch (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield), but the big picture is the Gamecocks are loading up on prospects to restock the defensive front-seven. South Carolina added to that defensive talent in this class as Devin Washington (Orlando/Jones), along with linebacker prospect David Johnson (Lithonia, Ga.), committed to the Gamecocks Thursday.
With Washington, South Carolina is getting a good defensive line prospect out of the Sunshine State. The four-star is a physical player with good initial quicks. He needs to keep adding size, but can be a stout run defender as he displays good playing strength and the ability to stay low and use his hands. He can also be a disruptive pass rusher off the edge with the ability to turn speed-to-power.
