Virginia Tech was forced to cancel its spring game due to inclement weather but the Hokies still had a huge day on the recruiting trail. Frank Beamer and his staff secured several commitments including four-star quarterback Bucky Hodges (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem), according to multiple sources.
Hodges, the nation's No. 4-rated dual-threat QB, also received scholarship offers from Ohio State, UConn, Maryland, East Carolina, Vanderbilt, James Madison, Virginia, West Virginia and Illinois.
He is one 2013's most physically-gifted prospects. The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder has posted an electronically-timed 4.7 40-yard dash, 4.37 20-yard shuttle and 34.8-inch vertical.
Hodges was named his district's player of the year last fall after throwing for 2,142 yards and 26 touchdowns and rushing for 434 yards and nine more scores.
