Antwynn Beavers attracting early interest

4/17/2012

Antwynn Beavers (Liberty, Mo./Liberty North) has the nickname “The Bullet” on his junior highlight tape. The first play on the tape gives an idea why the nickname fits.

Beavers, a 5-foot-8, 170-pound running back, quickly caught the attention of those watching with the very first play, a 99-yard sprint on a handoff to the end zone. He used his speed to rush for 2,239 yards and 21 touchdowns his junior season.

Beavers, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds, is now starting to begin the recruiting process, and he’s receiving early looks from Iowa, Northern Illinois, South Dakota and North Dakota.

“I’ve been working so hard right now to get ready for the season coming up,” Beavers said. “I want people to really know who I am. Right now, I’m still trying to get the hang of everything with recruiting.

“I’ve been looking up schools and doing some basic homework. It’s all still new to me, but it’s exciting. I’m taking it all in.”

An all-state selection, Beavers has the speed to get to the corners and race for the end zone. If he’s not a running back in college, he has the skill set to be a productive special teams threat as a kickoff returner or punt returner.

Beavers showed his durability as a junior by rushing 305 times and averaging more than seven yards per carry. He said no campus visits are currently scheduled, but he has a personal interest in Kansas State and Missouri, in addition to the schools that are interested in him.

“I don’t really want to go too far away,” Beavers said. “I’m trying to stay close as I can, because I don’t want my mom traveling too far. I’d like for K-State or Missouri to look at me. I know I’ve got to work hard for them.”
