Bradenton, Fla. -- Senior athlete Bo Scarbrough (Bradenton, Fla./IMG Academy) was presented his honorary game jersey during the American Family Insurance Selection Tour for the 2014 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. on Tuesday.
The event was part of the three-month American Family Insurance Selection Tour for the Under Armour All-America Game.
Scarbrough, an Alabama commitment, is one of 90 players selected to compete in the seventh-annual Under Armour All-America Game, presented by American Family Insurance, a nationally televised competition spotlighting the country’s top high school seniors. The 2014 Under Armour All-America Game is set for 4 p.m. ET on Jan. 2 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. and will be televised on ESPN.
“First, I would like to thank God,” Scarbrough said. “This is a blessing to be here today. I would like to thank Coach [Chris] Weinke and the coaching staff for guiding me, and leading me down that right path. And I just want to say thank y’all for this day,”
Weinke, IMG Academy's head coach, said his star player is both a leader by example, and as a competitor.
“He comes to practice every day with the right mindset. He’s the leader in all of our drills. Sets the tempo for practice, and that carries over into the games in Friday nights ... from that standpoint he’s not an outspoken guy, but leads by example and has been a great leader for us throughout the year. It’s going to give him an opportunity to compete against the best in the country. It’s no secret that he’s elevated himself to that level, and I think it’s going to be exciting for him ... because he’s very competitive. He wants to play against the best, and I think this will be an opportunity to show his skills against the best high schools players in the country.”
Following in the footsteps of the players before him and the chance to play against the best of the best in the 2014 class made the Under Armour All-America Game a simple decision.
“It’s like an honor to be selected for the Under Armour Game, and especially since Julio Jones, A.J. Green and all those guys played in it. It really shows you have the potential to do it [NFL]. I’m going to take it like it’s a normal high school game and forget the cameras are there. It will be pretty cool to be playing on ESPN, which there is a lot of kids that don’t have the opportunity to play in this game ... so I’m going to take advantage of it. I’m most excited to play in the Under Armour Game for the competition because I already know half of the kids that are playing in it ... so the competition is what I’m looking forward to.”
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Scarbrough is the No. 20-ranked prospect overall and the No. 2 athlete in the class. He committed to Alabama over Notre Dame, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Florida State and a number of others.
