Yes, but they must win. The more the Sun Devils win, the easier it will be to put up and maintain their fence around the state. However, they have to start meeting expectations, which has been a struggle.
This is a team that should possibly be 2-2 right now, not 3-1. In order to enhance their perception, they need to beat the likes of Stanford and USC and Notre Dame coming up next. This needs to be a program that makes it impossible for players in the state to leave, but they must avoid letdowns.
They have all the necessary resources to return to their old glory of the 60s, 70s and 80s. The last five classes or so have been very strong in the state of Arizona, but a Brett Hundley can’t go to UCLA, a Priest Willis can’t go to UCLA, a Taylor Lewan can’t go to Michigan and an Andrus Peat can’t go to Stanford, etc.
Texas is always going to be fruitful recruiting ground for Todd Graham and his staff because of the history and connections of Graham and his staff in the state. With ASU recruiting, it is more about winning the state and mining California than it is about hitting Texas. Texas should be a supplement to their efforts.
The fact that USC is down a bit right now, I believe, helps ASU at home and in California. Competition in recruiting in the Pac-12 is at a premium now that Stanford, Oregon, Washington and UCLA are all seeing a resurgence.
