Senior offensive guard Braden Smith (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) was presented his honorary game jersey during the American Family Insurance Selection Tour for the 2014 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game at Olathe (Kan.) South High School today.
Smith, No. 121 in the ESPN 300, is one of 90 players selected to compete in the seventh-annual Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 2 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. It will will be televised on ESPN at 4 p.m. ET.
“I accepted my invitation to the Under Armour All-America Game because it's one of the best games to go to,” Smith said. “It's a lot of fun, and you get to be coached by famous coaches and compete with the best players,” Smith said. "It's a great honor to play in the Under Armour All-America Game. Since I'm the first to be selected from Kansas, it's nice to be able to represent Kansas."
Olathe South head coach Jeff Gourley did the honors of presenting his star player with the game jersey and hat.
“It’s a pleasure to be here at Olathe South today. I’m very excited to honor Braden with the selection to the seventh annual Under Armour All-America Game. At this time, I would like to present him with the jersey and the hat, and you guys give him a big round of applause because he really deserves it.”
The 6-foot-6, 285-pound Smith is the No. 7 offensive guard in the class. He is considering TCU, Texas A&M, Alabama and Notre Dame, among others.
