Growing up, offensive tackle Michael Fairchild (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) didn’t have the best opinion of Missouri. There’s a simple explanation for that.
“I live in Kansas,” he said, “and everyone’s a Jayhawk.”
Fairchild is proof that campus visits are important in the recruiting process. The 6-foot-6, 270-pound lineman made multiple visits to Columbia, Mo., and ultimately fell in love with the campus that he once heard nothing but negative comments.
On Monday, Fairchild verbally committed to Missouri and became the eighth member of the Tigers’ 2014 class. Fairchild chose Missouri over offers from Harvard, Yale and Northern Colorado.
