TE Deondre Skinner opens it up

1/11/2013

Three-star tight end-H Deondre Skinner (Patterson, La./Patterson) is no longer committed to sign with Arkansas, multiple sources report. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound senior originally selected the Razorbacks in May, well before the program's coaching change.

Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Texas A&M and Tulane offered Skinner earlier in the process. He has official visits scheduled with the Cajuns (Jan. 18th) and Bulldogs (Jan. 25th).

Additionally, 247Sports believes Skinner will be in Houston for an official visit this weekend and Scout.com has him traveling to Arkansas on Feb. 2nd.

ESPN writes in his evaluation, "Skinner fill a possession zone receiver roll or more likely slide in to play H/TE in a spread offense. Would need to add strength and bulk to become more of a true in-line tight end or fine tune his body, adding speed, to become an outside receiver. Upside for Skinner is likely not as a wide receiver, but as an in-line guy. Good tools, raw player, who needs to find a home."

Skinner displayed the athleticism mentioned above on the combine circuit prior to his junior year when he registered a 4.81 40-yard dash, one of the better tight end times in this class.

Following Skinner's departure, Arkansas is down to 14 commitments for 2013. The group still includes one of the nation's finest tight end prospects in Under Armour All-American and ESPN 150 talent Hunter Henry (Little Rock, Ark./Pulaski Academy).
