While Miami’s class is not a big one, it doesn’t lack for some talent as they added their fourth ESPN 150 player Saturday in Al-Quadin Muhammad (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco). It is a big pick-up for a Miami team that uncharacteristically struggled on defense in 2012 as they finished at or near the bottom of the ACC in most defensive categories.
From an ability standpoint, Muhammad is a player who can help Miami as it works to try and improve that unit. A bit of a outside linebacker / defensive end ‘tweener at this stage, he can offer some versatility, but will likely develop into and fit better as more of a D-End for the Hurricanes where he can aid a pass rush that was 113th in sacks in 2012. He is an athletic and energetic defender from a good high school program. He needs to keep filling out his frame, but demonstrates good playing strength and can play with good pad level and use his hands well.
The ESPN 150 defender is a talented player who could potentially come in and contribute which may be needed and, in a little time, develop into a very good full-time player for Miami.
