The SEC was not kind to the Tigers on Saturday as Alabama pounded Missouri 42-10, but the school's new conference affiliate helped coach Gary Pinkel land a verbal from three-star defensive tackle Nate Crawford (Pensacola, Fla./West Florida Tech).
“My dream as a child was always to play in the SEC,” Crawford, who visited over the weekend, told the Pensacola News Journal. “I only had offers from Missouri and Kentucky, and I had to jump on one of them. This is the SEC; I want to play against those big teams that didn’t want to give me a chance.”
Cincinnati, Florida International, Louisville, Marshall, Memphis and South Florida also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-4, 255-pound senior while Mississippi State showed strong interest.
ESPN describes Crawford as, "a bit of a 'tweener at this stage and scheme and further physical development will determine how he is best used, but he flashes some good raw tools."
He displayed some of that potential at a Nike Combine this spring where he registered an electronically-timed 5.35 40-yard dash, 4.78 20-yard shuttle, 26-inch vertical and 50.4 SPARQ.
