It took a selfless decision to turn Jason Hatcher into a Southern Cal commitment.
The four-star defensive end from Louisville (Ky.) Trinity nearly committed to two other schools before finally visiting USC at his mother's behest this summer. He came back with a sense of conviction about where he wanted to go to school. Soon, it was obvious that Donna Hatcher's only son wouldn't be around Kentucky much longer, despite her wishes for him to attend a college nearby.
“I said 'Pray about it' and I took myself out of the equation,” she said. “He has to be there four years and I want it to be about Jason. I wanted to help him get to that point, where he had the passion about a school.”
Jason Hatcher never had that passion about the other two schools he primarily considered, yet he almost committed to Louisville and Tennessee, which would have surely made his mother happy. Louisville had done a good job of recruiting him, but there was always a desire to leave his hometown.om who allows him to make his own decisions.
