Panthers up to a dozen for 2014

Shane Roy (Reading, Ohio/Reading) and Brian O'Neill (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) are both on board with Pittsburgh, according to multiple reports.

Roy, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound defensive end, selected Pitt over offers from Ball State, Boston College, Bowling Green, Illinois, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Middle Tennessee, Ohio, Toledo and Western Kentucky.

Reading coach Scott Thamann told "He liked so many schools, but Pitt really stood out for him. He really liked the campus and the coaching staff. He likes that they want him to play a true 4-3 defensive end."

Roy earned a first-team all-league selection last fall after registering 22 tackles for loss and 16.5 sacks.

O'Neill, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound tight end, also was offered by Coastal Carolina, Colgate, Old Dominion, Tulane, William & Mary and Youngstown State.

The Panthers held just one commitment -- from three-star guard Connor Hayes (Traverse City, Mich./West) -- entering June.

Wolfgang Zacherl to play for Charlotte

Emerging FBS program Charlotte has added a 2013 verbal from defensive lineman Wolfgang Zacherl (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton), multiple sources report.

Connor Wingo-Reeves (Richmond, Va./Monacan) committed to play in the Big East for Temple, multiple sources report. He is the third linebacker for the Owls.

Navy and William and Mary also extended scholarship offers to Wingo-Reeves, a 6-foot-3, 226-pound senior, while Boston College, East Carolina and Maryland showed interest.

Javon Harrison (Lakeland, Fla./Kathleen) and Xavier Burke (Lawrenceville, Va./Brunswick) have committed to play for Virginia Tech, according to multiple sources.

Harrison is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect who was also offered by Michigan and Massachusetts. He caught 17 passes for 261 yards as a sophomore, but figures to play defensive back in college.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Burke is a tight end / defensive end. Virginia, James Madison and William & Mary were showing interest.

Virginia Tech now has four players on board for its 2014 class.

Two more for Maryland

Athlete DeAndre Lane (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) and defensive lineman Michael Williams (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) have joined the commitment parade to Maryland, multiple sources report.

Maryland extended Lane his first offer and he quickly accepted. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound prospect was also recruited by James Madison, Lafayette, Lehigh, North Carolina State, Temple, Towson, Wake Forest, West Virginia and William and Mary.

Last season, Lane rushed for more than 1,700 yards and scored more than 20 times. Prior to his junior year, Lane posted a 4.61 40-yard dash, 4.4 20-yard shuttle and 28-inch vertical on the combine circuit.

Sleeper DT makes decision

William and Mary of the Football Championship Subdivision has received a commitment from defensive tackle Tyler Claytor (Snellville, Ga./Shiloh), according to multiple sources. reports that Western Kentucky also extended a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-2, 265-pound senior.

Rated as a three-star prospect by ESPNU, Claytor registered 65 tackles and five sacks this fall on his way to an all-county selection.

He is the younger brother of former Georgia Tech offensive lineman Nick Claytor.
