AM ET
Three-star dual-threat quarterback Matthew Jordan (Jackson, Ala./Jackson) pledged on Saturday to sign with Georgia Tech, AL.com reports.

Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Furman, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, South Alabama, Texas State, Tulane, UAB and Western Kentucky offered the 6-foot-1, 190-pound athlete.

"The last two really came down to South Alabama and Georgia Tech," he said. "I really liked Nebraska; that's just a long ways. South [Alabama] is really close to home -- it's my hometown school. I always grew up a South Alabama fan. But Georgia Tech, when I went over there for a visit, they're the ones who treated me the best and with their facilities, I just think I can call it home."

Last season, Jordan completed 83 of 143 pass attempts for 1,324 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushed for more than 700 yards and 11 more scores.

He's Georgia Tech's 10th verbal for 2014.

Malik Rosier (Mobile, Ala./Faith Academy) and Ryan Mayes (Miami/Northwestern) have become commitments 17 and 18 for Miami's 2014 class, according to multiple reports.

Rosier is a 6-foot-1, 197-pound three-star quarterback. Arkansas State, Furman, Louisiana-Lafayette, Middle Tennessee, Northern Illinois, Southern Miss and Western Kentucky were his other scholarship offers. Alabama, Auburn, Cincinnati, Duke, Kentucky and South Carolina expressed interest.

"I really like Miami, and my mom really likes Miami," he told the Press-Register. "We kind of sat down and she said, 'If you like them, what is really the point in waiting any longer?' That made sense to me so I went ahead and committed."

Last fall, Rosier completed 169 of 305 attempts for 2,238 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushed for 1,002 yards and 12 more scores.

This spring, he displayed impressive athleticism at a Nike event, including an electronically-timed 4.69 40-yard dash, 4.54 20-yard shuttle, 33.4-inch vertical, 37-foot power throw and 81.57 SPARQ.

He's also Faith Academy's catcher on the baseball team, where he hit over .400 as a junior and has received interest from SEC and ACC programs.

The 6-foot-1, 183-pound Mayes selected the Hurricanes over a scholarship offer from Syracuse. He joins high school teammate Michael Smith, a three-star outside linebacker on the Miami's commit list.

Seven 2014 prospects have announced for Miami since Friday.

Outsey tweeted Friday:

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound outside linebacker was also offered by Akron, Buffalo and Pittsburgh. Maryland, Michigan State, Rutgers, Syracuse and Virginia showed interest.

Render, a 6-foot-4, 307-pound guard, picked the Hawkeyes over offers from Iowa State and Northern Illinois, along with interest from Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The first-team Class 4A all-state selection tweeted Saturday:

Iowa has picked up five of its eight commitments in June.

LB Colton Moskal picks Syracuse

AM ET
Colton Moskal (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich), who will be included as part of Monday's ESPN RecruitingNation rankings update, has committed to Syracuse, according to media reports.

He also received scholarship offers from Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wyoming and Yale.

Cornell, Duke, Illinois, Iowa, Penn State and Stanford expressed interest in the 6-foot-1, 215-pound prospect.

Syracuse has four commitments.

Academics lead Merriweather to GT

Class of 2014 defensive end Tyler Merriweather (Demopolis, Ala./Academy) committed to play for Georgia Tech, multiple sources report.

Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Northern Illinois, Western Kentucky also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-3, 225-pound prospect. Other programs, including Auburn and Southern Miss, showed interest.

Merriweather, who hopes to study engineering and owns a 4.1 GPA, spoke with the Atlanta Journal Constitution about his decision:

“(My family) discussed options, and what I want to do for the rest of my life. It’s not all about football. Academics are important, with me wanting to be an engineer. Georgia Tech has good academics, good football and it’s a short distance from home. I couldn’t ask for a better situation.”

The Yellow Jackets, who also picked up commitments this weekend from four-star cornerback Stepheny Durham IV (Jacksonville, Fla./Atlantic Coast) and three-star outside linebacker KeShun Freeman (Hogansville, Ga./Callaway), now have six pledges.

SMU lands playmaker Nate Gaines

June, 4, 2013

AM ET
On Monday, defensive back/wide receiver Nate Gaines (Mesquite, Texas/Poteet) committed to play for the SMU Mustangs, the Dallas Morning News reports. He was recruited by SMU associate head coach/defensive coordinator Tom Mason.

Arkansas State, Colorado State, Louisiana-Monroe, Navy, Nevada, Northern Illinois, Utah State, UTEP and Texas-San Antonio also extended scholarship offers to Gaines.

Despite his pledge, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect still hopes to visit Baylor and Oklahoma State this summer.

Gaines, a two-way contributor, caught 29 passes for 296 yards and six touchdowns and registered 48 tackles and nine interceptions as a junior.

SMU has seven commitments for 2014.
With three solid pickups in the month of May, Northwestern has been hot with its recruiting. The Wildcats are hoping to add to his class with rising cornerback Verkedric Vaughns (Mesquite, Texas/Poteet).

Hearing Vaughns tell it, however, a decision isn’t even close -- no matter how difficult it is for him to think about recruiting.
