HOUSTON — Trey Roberts hasn't had too many opportunities to play cornerback, his future position at Oklahoma State.

That's because the 2014 athlete from Houston Eisenhower plays quarterback for the Eagles. But on Saturday, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect, who committed to the Cowboys on Wednesday, got a chance to perform defensive back drills with his future position coach, cornerbacks coach Van Malone, during the Mary Hardin-Baylor/Oklahoma State satellite camp at Cypress Ridge High School.

Coveted safety Jyaz Jones (Dallas/South Oak Cliff) committed to play in the Mountain West Conference for Colorado State, multiple sources report.

Baylor, Iowa, Nebraska, New Mexico State and Texas Tech also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect. Programs such as LSU, Southern Methodist and Texas showed interest.

Jones posted impressive combine figures on the Nike circuit, including a 4.67-second 40-yard dash, 4.01-second 20-yard shuttle and 32.5-foot power throw.

His older brother, Class of 2013 wide receiver Anjeus Jones, originally committed to Colorado State before signing with Iowa.

The Rams have two verbals for 2014. Athlete Bryson Gates (Fairfield, Texas/Fairfield) also committed this week.
The new coaching staff at San Jose State faces challenges on and off the field in living up to what the previous group was able to accomplish with the Spartans. But coach Ron Caragher took his first big step with the 2014 class Sunday night, as San Jose State corralled its first commitment for the 2014 recruiting class.

Class of 2014 linebacker Fred Warner (San Marcos, Calif./Mission Hills) committed Tuesday to play for BYU, the Deseret News reports.

“It went down really fast,” Warner said. “I had just been offered by New Mexico State when I got a message to call coach (Nick) Howell and coach (Kelly) Poppinga at BYU. They both told me they really liked what they saw on film and then the very next day I got a message to call (head) coach (Bronco) Mendenhall. He told me the same thing over the phone and told me they wanted to offer me a scholarship.”

Arizona, Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, UCLA, Washington and Washington State are among the other programs recruiting the 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect.

BYU has now secured five players during this cycle.

It might turn out that no high school in California possesses an offensive three-headed monster as potent and sought-after by college coaches as the one at La Mirada (Calif.) High School, with tight end Tyler Luatua, wide receiver Dallis Todd and 2015 quarterback Kevin Dillman.

While those three will have college coaches flocking to the La Mirada campus this spring, they'll have an opportunity to shine a spotlight on another offensive player for the Matadors in offensive guard Michael Trani.
