Evan Butts gets Virginia offer, commits

Tight end/defensive end Evan Butts (Newtown Square, Pa./Episcopal Academy) received a scholarship offer Saturday while attending a Cavaliers camp and is now on board with Virginia, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

"I immediately had the sense that Virginia was the right place for me," the 6-foot-4, 225-pound prospect said. "I'm beyond excited about it."

Boston College was also high on Butts' list. Army, Bucknell, Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Massachusetts, Monmouth, Navy, Ohio, Rutgers, South Florida and Temple were his other scholarship offers.

Virginia has eight commitments.

Jayhawks nab Jersey receiver

High three-star wide receiver Ishmael Hyman (Holmdel, N.J./St. John Vianney) committed Friday to play in the Big 12 for head coach Charlie Weis and Kansas, multiple sources report.

Hyman, a 6-foot, 170-pound senior, made an official visit to campus last weekend. He was recruited by Kansas assistant Rob Ianello.

Boston College, UMass, Rutgers, Syracuse, Bowling Green, Temple, Villanova, James Madison, Old Dominion, Buffalo, Monmouth and Purdue were his other scholarship offers. Programs such as Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Penn State showed interest.

WR DuBois Ross picks Buffalo

The Bulls have landed a 2013 verbal from pass-catcher DuBois Ross (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), Scout.com reports.

Holy Cross, Massachusetts, Monmouth and Yale also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot, 178-pound prospect while programs such as Cincinnati, Syracuse and Temple showed interest.

According to Rivals.com, Maryland extended a scholarship offer Friday to Elvis Dennah (Annapolis, Ind./Area Christian) and the 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect quickly committed to the Terps.

Duke, North Carolina, East Carolina, Monmouth and New Hampshire were some of the other programs recruiting the tall safety.

Temple has received a commitment from defensive lineman Nikolaus D'Avanzo (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley), according to Rivals.com.

The 6-foot-3, 244-pound D'Avanzo also collected scholarship offers from Hampton, James Madison, Massachusetts, Monmouth and Old Dominion. Maryland and Rutgers recruited the rising senior.

D'Avanzo posted an electronically-timed 5.00 40-yard dash, 4.68 20-yard shuttle, 25.3-inch vertical and 68.43 SPARQ on the Nike Combine circuit this spring.

Temple has five verbals.
