HOUSTON -- The first in-person impression Baylor made on 2014 offensive tackle Blake Blackmar (Houston/Clear Lake) was a significant one.

It was Nov. 17, 2012 when Blackmar attended the Bears' 52-24 upset of then-No. 1 Kansas State.

This spring, the Bears were also the first program to offer Blackmar, and on Saturday it paid dividends when he committed to the green and gold.

The 6-foot-6, 328-pound prospect picked the Bears over Kansas State and Texas Tech and delivered the news personally to the Baylor staff when he attended their camp on Saturday at Cypress Falls High School.

Melvin Morrow III shining at linebacker

Through four games, inside linebacker Melvin Morrow III (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) has put up respectable numbers. Morrow has 46 tackles, a sack and an interception and is showing that he’s capable of playing football in college.

If that doesn’t happen, look for Morrow to prepare for life as a doctor. Morrow plans on becoming a medical student in college and pursuing a career as a plastic surgeon after his studies.

All of this is under the assumption that Morrow doesn’t take a college football career to the next level. Currently, the 6-foot, 215-pound senior linebacker is still without an offer but has heard from FBS schools such as Indiana, Memphis, Washington, Illinois, Army and Indiana State. FCS school Missouri State has been the latest to show interest.

QB Patrick Hoard expecting big 2012

The summer has been good to quarterback Patrick Hoard (North Kansas City, Mo./North Kansas City). At 6-foot-3 and 208 pounds, Hoard has put on nearly 10 pounds of muscle and dropped his 40-yard dash time to 4.59 seconds since the end of his junior season.

To many, the rising senior, athletically, is starting to remind some college football fans of his father, former Kansas State running back J.J. Smith. Hoard isn’t shy about his wishes to follow his father’s footsteps and play for the Wildcats.

“I feel like K-State is the school for me; it’s the place with the coaches I’m trying to impress,” Hoard said. “When I went there, the coaches already knew my name and had heard of me. That was really nice.

Tight end Jonah Hill (Springfield, Mo./Hillcrest) has committed to sign with Arkansas State, KSPR.com reports.

"I couldn’t tell you how it made me feel to go up there (Jonesboro)," Hill said. "I couldn’t be more happy and feel more at home. With my versatility they're allowing me to play the h-back, fullback position. Coach Malzahn can make me the best player I can be."

Illinois State, Missouri State and Wyoming also offered the 6-foot-3, 235-pound prospect while other programs including Arkansas, Iowa State, Kansas State, Missouri and Tulsa showed interest.

Hill is commitment No. 11 for Arkansas State. The Red Wolves now hold pledges from six different states.

Football or basketball for Alex Cooper?

March, 20, 2012

This spring will be very important for Alex Cooper (Mesquite, Texas/Mesquite). The two-sport athlete will balance football conditioning with AAU basketball.

Along with that, Cooper will focus on recruiting -- for both sports. The 6-foot, 160-pound junior is being viewed as both a quarterback and an athlete on the football field, but he also is getting looks as a guard on the basketball court.

Cooper has garnered interest from schools in both sports, and he is hoping to attract more -- and get his first offer -- in time for his senior season. Cooper has received correspondence from Texas A&M, North Texas, Purdue and Georgetown in football. He has looks from Texas Tech, North Texas, Wichita State, Maryland, Missouri State and Lehigh in basketball.

Running back Cedric Miller (Memphis, Tenn./Southwind) verbally commits to Missouri State, the Springfield News-Leader reports.

His high school coach and father Cedric Miller broke down his game:

"He's a big back who runs downhill, is elusive and has breakaway speed. I think he's a diamond in the rough."

The younger Miller rushed for 1,975 yards and 33 touchdowns this past season.
