The South Florida Bulls secured their first ESPN 300 recruit for the 2014 class. On Friday, four-star wide receiver Ryeshene Bronson (Fort Myers, Fla./Dunbar) committed to play for Willie Taggart and South Florida, according to multiple reports.

The 6-foot-3, 183-pound Bronson originally committed to Florida in June 2012 but opened up his recruitment this May.

Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Massachusetts, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi State, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee also extended scholarship offers to the country's No. 263 prospect.

This winter, Bronson posted a 4.72 40-yard dash, 4.55 20-yard shuttle and 26.5-inch vertical at the National Under Armour All-America Combine.

Bronson is South Florida's highest-rated verbal. The Bulls also have four-star athlete Jimmy Bayes (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee) among their 16 pledges.

Tom Rodrick commits to UConn

AM ET
Leicester High senior fullback/linebacker Tom Rodrick has verbally committed to UConn for the 2014 season, he announced Wednesday on Twitter.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Rodrick has been an integral part of the Wolverines these past two seasons, helping them capture a MIAA Division 5 Super Bowl title in 2011 and a return trip to the title game in 2012. This past season, he led the Wolverines in tackles (92) and led Central Mass. in sacks (14). Offensively, he recorded 437 yards and eight touchdowns from the fullback position. At camps this offseason, Rodrick has recorded 40-yard dash times as low as 4.57 seconds.

At the time of his commitment, Rodrick also had an offer from UMass, while Rhode Island and Villanova expressed varying degrees of interest. He visited UConn's practice on Wednesday, after which he made his pledge to the Huskies' 2014 recruiting class.

"It just felt right," Rodrick said. "I really liked practice, I like [head coach Paul] Pasqualoni and I like their linebackers coach [Jon Wholley], I like how the team is put together."

According to Wolverines head coach Tim Griffiths, the program has never sent a player to a Division 1 FBS program before Rodrick. To be the first, Rodrick said, "is an honor".

"We've got so many people who have gone through Leicester that we still talk about...We've had so many awesome players, it's an honor to be the first," Rodrick said.

At UConn, Rodrick will likely fit into a hybrid edge defensive player, playing mostly outside linebacker but potentially playing a five-technique defensive end on third downs. At Leicester, Rodrick rarely plays with his hand in the ground, but he would like to improve on his pass rush technique before arriving in Storrs.

"As a defensive end I'd like to put on a couple more pounds, up to 250," he said. "I have a few [moves], rip and swim, stuff like that, but I need to work on my hammer a little bit better. That was something I really liked about Coach Pasqualoni, he's coached so many great defensive ends."

Rodrick admits the decision between UConn and UMass was a tough one, as his brother currently attends the latter as a student.

"It was pretty big, to be honest," he said. "But with that said, UMass did a very good job recruiting me. They sent me 15 letters yesterday, from the whole coaching staff. ... It was definitely [a tough decision], especially because the coaches at UMass seemed like genuine guys. I've got nothing bad to say about UMass at all, it was actually kinda tough telling them I'm going to UConn."

Including resigns, the Huskies have 11 commitments for 2014.

ESPN 300 DT Poona Ford commits

Highly-coveted defensive tackle Poona Ford (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head) pledged to sign with Louisville Tuesday, according to multiple sources.

"I guess I just had a feeling. The feeling you get when you know you're welcome," he told The State. "I went up there for a visit, and they talked to me about coming in my freshman year and playing my very first game at home against Miami."

Ford selected the Cardinals over scholarship offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Boise State, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kansas State, Marshall, Massachusetts, Missouri, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Purdue, South Carolina, Tennessee, Toledo, UCF and Utah State.

Last fall, the 6-foot, 285-pound four-star terrorized opponents to the tune of 154 total tackles, 44 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.

Ford, ranked No. 275 nationally, is now Louisville's highest-rated defensive pledge. The Cardinals have 24 verbals for 2014.

Chris Jones (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood) gave his verbal commitment to play for South Florida, the Florida Times-Union reports.

USF topped offers from Florida International, Indiana, Massachusetts, Middle Tennessee, Purdue, Western Kentucky and Western Michigan for the 6-foot, 162-pound prospect.

Jones posted an electronically-timed 4.77 40-yard dash, 4.69 20-yard shuttle, 32.7-inch vertical, 37-foot power throw and 75.63 SPARQ this spring at a Nike combine.

He's the fifth 2014 prospect from Sandalwood to make an FBS commitment, joining ESPN 300 linebacker Kain Daub (Florida State), four-star wide receiver DeSean Blair (Louisville), three-star defensive tackle Blake McClain (Florida State) and fullback Broadie Matts (Air Force).

The Bulls have 13 commitments.

Offensive tackle James McHale (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) is on board with Temple, the Times-Tribune reports.

"It was a long process, but it was fun," he said. "I had a lot of schools come in and [was] interested, and I went to a bunch of camps. It was a pretty good experience getting recruited."
