Kansas gets combine standout Hartzog

Three-star wide receiver Bobby Hartzog (Houston/Westside) committed Saturday to play in the Big 12 for Kansas, according to multiple reports.

Hartzog, who has an Oct. 18 official visit to Lawrence, Kan. scheduled, was recruited by Jayhawks defensive line coach Buddy Wyatt.

He originally committed to Houston in June, switched to Utah later that month but dropped the Utes in August.

Arkansas State, Iowa State, Lamar, McNeese State, Northwestern State, Texas State, Tulane and UTSA also extended scholarship offers to the 5-foot-11, 182-pound prospect.

Hartzog posted outstanding combine figures this spring on the Nike circuit. His marks included an electronically-timed 4.49 40-yard dash, 4.16 20-yard shuttle, 37.4-inch vertical, 37-foot power throw and 110.91 SPARQ.

The Jayhawks now have nine players on board for 2014. Their class includes two ESPN 300 recruits, one four-star and six three-stars.

Purdue lands defender Drue Tranquill

Three-star outside linebacker / safety Drue Tranquill (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) committed Tuesday to sign with the Boilermakers, according to the Indianapolis Star.

He selected Purdue over Cincinnati and Indiana. Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Indiana State, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, Toledo and Western Michigan also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-3, 207-pound prospect. Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame expressed some interest.

Tranquill said during his press conference, "I believe Purdue is on the rise with this new coaching staff. A new legacy awaits."

Purdue now has eight verbals for 2014. Tranquill is the Boilermakers' highest-rated defensive pledge.

WMU reaches double digits with Prater

Wide receiver Treevon Prater (East St. Louis, Ill./East St. Louis) is Western Michigan's 10th commitment for 2014, multiple sources report.

Illinois State, Indiana State, Kansas and Syracuse also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot, 179-pound prospect.

Prater registered an electronically-timed 4.82 40-yard dash, 4.47 20-yard shuttle, 30.9-inch vertical, 31-foot power throw and 69.54 SPARQ this spring at a Nike combine.

He's the second wide receiver to select the Broncos during this recruiting cycle. LaDarian Smiley (Monticello, Fla./Jefferson County), who also claims BCS offers, picked Western Michigan last month.

Rams gain senior 'backer Deonte Clyburn

Louisville St. Xavier product Deonte Clyburn is on board with Jim McElwain's Rams, multiple sources report. He was recruited by CSU running backs / special teams coach Jeff Hammerschmidt.

The 6-foot, 214-pound linebacker selected Colorado State over Western Kentucky. Eastern Kentucky, Georgia State, Indiana State, Miami-OH, Southeast Missouri State, Tennessee-Martin, Western Kentucky and Wofford also offered.

Clyburn told the Louisville Courier-Journal that he selected Colorado State because of, "facilities, the area around it and really how beautiful it is."

RedHawks pull 2nd Elder lineman

Senior offensive tackle Jake Hilvert (Cincinnati/Elder) has pledged to play for Miami-OH, according to multiple reports.

ESPN's Jared Shanker reported earlier Tuesday that Hilvert's teammate, defensive end A.J. Burdine, selected the RedHawks.

Last week, Edler coach Doug Ramsey informed Cincinnati.com that Hilvert was holding scholarship offers from Alcorn State, Buffalo and Indiana State and had received interest from Eastern Kentucky.

Safety Corey Quallen picks Ohio

The Bobcats have received a commitment from in-state defensive back Corey Quallen (Mason, Ohio/Mason), according to multiple sources.

Quallen, a 6-foot-1, 207-pound safety, selected Ohio over scholarship offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Eastern Illinois, Indiana State, Miami (Ohio) and Toledo. Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State and Wisconsin showed interest.

Before his junior year, Quallen registered combine-verified figures including a 4.89 40-yard dash, 4.22 20-yard shuttle and 28-inch vertical.

Ohio now has 13 pledges.

Two-star senior Chase Dutra (Brownsburg, Ind.) has committed to play in the Big Ten for Indiana, multiple sources report.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound prospect posted his decision on Twitter, "Just gave my Verbal Commitment to Indiana University!!!... #HoosierNation #StandUp"

He selected Indiana over scholarships offer from Western Michigan and Indiana State. Dutra claimed additional interest from Air Force, Ball State, Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Northwestern and Purdue.

Outside linebacker/safety prospect Stu Stanley (Indianapolis/Cathedral) is set to continue his career at Ball State after committing to the Cardinals, multiple sources report.

Stanley was on campus over the weekend for the Super Sunday Camp, according to the Star-Press.

“I’m real excited,” he said before attending. “I was there earlier in the school year and loved it. It was cool. I liked the campus and had a chance to visit some of the classrooms and the football facility.”

Arizona Western Community College (Yuma, Ariz.) cornerback Tony Grimes committed to play for Florida Atlantic on Friday, Rivals.com reports.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Grimes originally signed with Ole Miss in 2010 as a four-star prospect out of Hollywood Hills (Fla.) High School.

Utah has received a verbal commitment from Alexandru Ceachir (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica College), who visited the campus this past weekend.

He told the Desert News that he was really impressed with Salt Lake City: "Utah is a good place where I would like to be."

Arkansas, Colorado, Hawaii, Fresno State, Florida International, Southern Methodist and Indiana State also offered.

Ceachir is from the Republic of Moldova in Eastern Europe and he hopes to play one day in the National Football League.
