Hokies continue to build OL with Taylor

Three-star offensive tackle Brady Taylor (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Ready) pledged to sign with Virginia Tech, according to multiple reports. He selected the Hokies over Kentucky.

Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, North Carolina State, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Purdue, South Florida, Toledo, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Western Michigan also offered the 6-foot-4, 267-pound lineman.

Taylor is the fifth offensive lineman to choose Virginia Tech for 2014, and he is excited to join the group:

"I talked to them a lot," Taylor told the Roanoke (Va.) Times. "They're all really good kids. I've gotten to know them well. ... It's pretty awesome. Because even if nothing works out and we get to our fifth year, we're eventually going to play together. That's pretty special to have four other kids your age to play with."

Virginia Tech's class is ranked 26th by ESPN RecruitingNation.

Purdue lands defender Drue Tranquill

Three-star outside linebacker / safety Drue Tranquill (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) committed Tuesday to sign with the Boilermakers, according to the Indianapolis Star.

He selected Purdue over Cincinnati and Indiana. Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Indiana State, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, Toledo and Western Michigan also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-3, 207-pound prospect. Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame expressed some interest.

Tranquill said during his press conference, "I believe Purdue is on the rise with this new coaching staff. A new legacy awaits."

Purdue now has eight verbals for 2014. Tranquill is the Boilermakers' highest-rated defensive pledge.

Niemann makes the switch to Iowa

Outside linebacker prospect Ben Niemann (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) has changed his commitment from Northern Illinois to Iowa, according to multiple reports.

Ben's decision could sting his father Jay, who is the defensive coordinator at Northern Illinois and played college football for the Hawkeyes' in-state rival, Iowa State.

Eastern Michigan and Illinois State also offered the the 6-foot-3, 195-pound high school wide receiver, who is expected to make the transition to defense at the next level. He had 876 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior.

Iowa has a dozen pledges on board for 2014.

The Buffaloes have added a verbal from tight end Dylan Keeney (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay), according to multiple reports.

Eastern Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Sacramento State, San Jose State and Wyoming also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-6, 210-pound rising senior.

Last offseason, he registered a 5.13 40-yard dash, 4.29 20-yard shuttle, 31.7-inch vertical and 78.15 SPARQ.

Keeney is commitment No. 7 for Colorado.

Donovan Clark (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side), a 5-foot-10, 170-pound cornerback, has pledged to sign with Indiana, according to multiple reports.

Prior to receiving his offer from the Big Ten's Hoosiers, Clark was pursued heavily by Mid-American Conference programs such as Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio), Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan. Iowa and Michigan State also expressed interest.

Clark is Indiana's seventh verbal for 2014.

RB Scott, WR Polk to Louisville

With the additions of L.J. Scott (Marion, Ohio/Harding) and Cameron Polk (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), Louisville's Class of 2014 has grown to 20, according to multiple reports.

Scott is a 5-foot-10, 224-pound three-star running back whose other offers include Indiana, Kent State, Michigan State, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

He showed impressive athleticism this spring on the Nike combine circuit registering an electronically timed 4.76 40-yard dash, 4.25 20-yard shuttle, 30.4-inch vertical, 42-foot power throw and 110.82 SPARQ.

Polk, a three-star, also had scholarship offers from Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Massachusetts, Ohio and Toledo. He's a 6-1, 188-pound wide receiver with a 32.6-inch vertical.

The Cardinals class is ranked 20th nationally.

Syracuse continues to build with Bennett

Linebacker Parris Bennett (Detroit/Jesuit) has given his commitment to the Syracuse Orange, according to multiple reports.

The 6-foot, 205-pound defender also received scholarship offers from Pittsburgh, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan.

Syracuse has six pledges for 2014 from six different states: Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

Wake Forest wins battle for OLB Williams

Outside linebacker Jaboree' Williams (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale) pledged to sign with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, multiple sources report. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Williams announced his decision on Twitter:

 

Appalachian State, Boston College, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Holy Cross, Illinois, Marshall, Memphis, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Methodist, Tulane, West Virginia and Wisconsin were his other scholarship offers.

He posted an electronically-timed 4.84 40-yard dash, 4.74 20-yard shuttle, 32-inch vertical, 33-foot power throw and 64.68 SPARQ this offseason at a Nike combine.

Williams is commitment No. 2 for Wake Forest. Safety Cameron Glenn (Stone Mountain, Ga./Stephenson) got the Deacons' class started in April with his pledge.

Duke's Class of 2014 has grown to nine with commitments from Chris Taylor (Coconut Creek, Fla./North Broward Prep) and Kerrion Moore (Gastonia, N.C./Davie County), multiple sources report.

Taylor, a 6-foot, 168-pound wide receiver, selected the Blue Devils over scholarship offers from Appalachian State, Eastern Michigan, Massachusetts, Ohio, Western Michigan and Yale. Auburn, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech showed interest.

Moore is a 5-foot-8, 180-pound running back who carried 128 times for 1,004 yards (7.8 average), caught 14 passes for 392 yards (28 average), made 33 tackles, intercepted four passes, and scored 18 total touchdowns as a junior.

Offensive lineman Zach Harmon (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) also recently committed. His decision was reported earlier Tuesday by ESPN's Jared Shanker.

Matt Sokol (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams), a 6-foot-5, 225-pound prospect, committed Monday to sign with Michigan State, according to multiple sources. He lines up at quarterback for Adams, but is expected to play tight end for the Spartans.

Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin also extended scholarship offers to the Class of 2014 prospect.

Sokol is commitment No. 7 for the Spartans.

Three-star defensive tackle Enoch Smith Jr. (Chicago/Mt. Carmel) and center Brian Allen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) pledged Saturday to sign with Michigan State, according to multiple sources.

Smith Jr., the nation's No. 32-rated DT, selected Michigan State over scholarship offers from Arizona, Cincinnati, Duke, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina State, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, Purdue, Syracuse, Tennessee and Toledo.

The 6-foot-2, 276-pound prospect registered a time of 5.21 in the 40-yard dash, 4.49 20-yard shuttle, 26-inch vertical and 74.1 SPARQ at a Nike Combine before his junior season.

Glendale (Ariz.) Community College cornerback Diondre Moore-Young is set to continue his career at Eastern Michigan, according to multiple sources.

Moore-Young, a 5-foot-9, 180-pound prospect, selected the Eagles over a scholarship offer from Northern Colorado.
