Hokies continue to build OL with Taylor

Three-star offensive tackle Brady Taylor (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Ready) pledged to sign with Virginia Tech, according to multiple reports. He selected the Hokies over Kentucky.

Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, North Carolina State, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Purdue, South Florida, Toledo, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Western Michigan also offered the 6-foot-4, 267-pound lineman.

Taylor is the fifth offensive lineman to choose Virginia Tech for 2014, and he is excited to join the group:

"I talked to them a lot," Taylor told the Roanoke (Va.) Times. "They're all really good kids. I've gotten to know them well. ... It's pretty awesome. Because even if nothing works out and we get to our fifth year, we're eventually going to play together. That's pretty special to have four other kids your age to play with."

Virginia Tech's class is ranked 26th by ESPN RecruitingNation.

Big RB Isaiah Robinson to Wake

Wake Forest picked up a verbal Friday from Isaiah Robinson (Charlotte, N.C./Independence), according to multiple reports.

The bruising 5-foot-10, 223-pound running back selected Wake over scholarship offers from Connecticut, Louisville, East Carolina, Ohio, Buffalo and Charlotte. Clemson, Duke, North Carolina and NC State were also in the mix.

Robinson is the first offensive player to jump on board with the Demon Deacon's 2014 class.

James McHale says yes to Temple

Offensive tackle James McHale (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) is on board with Temple, the Times-Tribune reports.

"It was a long process, but it was fun," he said. "I had a lot of schools come in and [was] interested, and I went to a bunch of camps. It was a pretty good experience getting recruited."

McHale added, "Now I have that behind me, and I don't have to worry about a recruiting trip. I can focus on this season. We are really excited about this season at Dunmore; we have a lot of guys back and we are pretty pumped."

The 6-foot-6, 289-pound blocker also holds scholarship offers from Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Massachusetts and Syracuse. Boston College, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, West Virginia and Wisconsin showed interest.

Temple has 16 pledges for 2014.

Owls gain defender Jared Folks

Defensive end/outside linebacker Jared Folks (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna) has committed to play in the newly-formed American Athletic Conference for Temple, the Patriot-News reports.

Buffalo and Massachusetts also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-2, 215-pound prospect. Connecticut showed interest.

"Temple was the school I've wanted to go to since last year," he said. "Ever since Averee Robinson [a 2012 Susquehanna grad] committed to Temple my goal was to get there and join him."

Folks registered eight sacks and one interception during his junior campaign.

ATH Tyrell Gilbert stays home

Tyrell Gilbert (Cincinnati/Princeton), a receiver, safety and linebacker, has committed to play for his hometown Cincinnati Bearcats, according to multiple sources.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound prospect also holds scholarship offers from Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Toledo and Western Michigan.

Cincinnati has nine verbals.

Terps land defender Brett Kulka

Class of 2014 defensive end Brett Kulka (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) committed to sign with Maryland, according to media reports.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound prospect also holds scholarship offers from Akron, Bucknell, Buffalo and Kent State.

He is pledge No. 6 for the Terps.

Syraucse gets first DB in Williams

Defensive back Rodney Williams (Cherry Hill, N.J./West) picked up an offer from Syracuse following an impressive camp performance and wasted little time in committing to the Orange, according to The Post-Standard.

"I had a really good connection with the coaches and loved the campus, so I knew it was the right school for me," he said.

Buffalo and Temple also extended scholarship offers to the 5-foot-10, 185-pound rising senior.

Syracuse has five pledges.

Hawkeyes land Jersey LB, in-state OL

Jameer Outsey (Somerset, N.J./Franklin) and Keegan Render (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola) have become the seventh and eighth commitments for Iowa, according to media reports.

Outsey tweeted Friday:


The 6-foot-3, 225-pound outside linebacker was also offered by Akron, Buffalo and Pittsburgh. Maryland, Michigan State, Rutgers, Syracuse and Virginia showed interest.

Render, a 6-foot-4, 307-pound guard, picked the Hawkeyes over offers from Iowa State and Northern Illinois, along with interest from Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Iowa has picked up five of its eight commitments in June.

Evan Butts gets Virginia offer, commits

Tight end/defensive end Evan Butts (Newtown Square, Pa./Episcopal Academy) received a scholarship offer Saturday while attending a Cavaliers camp and is now on board with Virginia, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

"I immediately had the sense that Virginia was the right place for me," the 6-foot-4, 225-pound prospect said. "I'm beyond excited about it."

Boston College was also high on Butts' list. Army, Bucknell, Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Massachusetts, Monmouth, Navy, Ohio, Rutgers, South Florida and Temple were his other scholarship offers.

Virginia has eight commitments.

Terps get TE Andrew Gray

Class of 2014 tight end Andrew Gray (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) committed Saturday to play in the ACC for Maryland, according to multiple reports.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound prospect selected the Terrapins over scholarship offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Louisville, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan.

Gray caught 12 passes for 200 yards last season, according to the News-Herald.

Maryland has five pledges.

Two more for Western Michigan

This week, the Broncos picked up commitments 11 and 12 for the Class of 2014. According to multiple sources, Jacari Faulkner (Detroit/University of Detroit Jesuit) and Trevahn Beery (Creston, Ohio/Norwayne) are both on board.

Faulkner's a 6-foot-2, 242-pound defensive end whose registered a 4.35 20-yard shuttle, 27-inch vertical and 32-foot power throw at a combine this offseason. Western Michigan topped in-state rival Central Michigan for his pledge.

Buffalo also extended a scholarship offer to Beery. Akron, Illinois, Louisville and Toledo recruited the 6-0, 163-pound defensive back. He's posted a 4.74 40-yard dash, 4.59 20-yard shuttle, 31.7-inch vertical, 30-foot power throw and 65.1 SPARQ on the Nike circuit.

The Broncos' class is headlined by four-star quarterback Chance Stewart (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis).

Indiana gets on the board for 2014

Defensive tackle Michael Barwick (Cincinnati/Summit Country Day) has become the Indiana Hoosiers' first Class of 2014 commitment, multiple sources report. He was recruited by Indiana run game coordinator/offensive line coach Greg Frey.

Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Hampton, Kent State, Toledo and Western Michigan also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-1, 290-pound prospect.

Indiana is Barwick's only BCS conference offer at this time, but other programs, including Cincinnati, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Purdue, West Virginia and Wisconsin, expressed some interest.

Gamecocks get on the board for 2015

South Carolina, which has just three players committed for this recruiting cycle, picked up a 2015 verbal on Friday. According to multiple sources, wide receiver Dexter Neal (Stone Mountain, Ga./Stephenson) is set to play for the Gamecocks.

Buffalo, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Clemson, Connecticut, Georgia State, Michigan State, North Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and West Virginia also extended early scholarship offers to Neal.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound talent has posted a 4.41 20-yard shuttle, 32.6-inch vertical and 35.5-foot power throw on the Nike combine circuit.

Gamecocks defensive coordinator/cornerbacks coach Lorenzo Ward spearheaded Neal's recruitment.

Vandy grabs second Stephenson pledge

Class of 2014 tight end Montez Sweat (Stone Mountain, Ga./Stephenson) committed Thursday to sign with Vanderbilt, multiple sources report. His high school teammate, four-star running back Dallas Rivers, picked the Commodores in March.

Sweat, a 6-foot-6, 225-pound prospect, also holds scholarship offers Buffalo, Cincinnati, Florida, Georgia State, Marshall, Mississippi State, Old Dominion and West Virginia.

The Commodores have nine commitments and sit at No. 18 in ESPN RecruitingNation's class rankings.
