When it comes to running backs, the state of Texas is loaded. Ten running backs represent the Lone Star State in the ESPN 300. Of those 10, five are committed. A total of seven running backs in the state have reported FBS commitments.

ESPN 300 RBs from the state:

No. 50 Ronald Jones II: Ranked the nation’s No. 3 running back, Jones is an explosive, game-changing back who -- as scary as it might sound -- will only get better. Jones committed to Oklahoma State on April 6 and finished his junior season with more than 2,400 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns.

A year ago, Jerome Baker Jr. (Cleveland/Benedictine) toiled in obscurity.

Now, the 6-foot-1, 202-pound junior can’t move an inch without someone asking about him.

Such is the life of an ESPN Junior 300 standout that has burst onto the scene as a can’t-miss prospect in the 2015 class.

Two-a-days are wrapping up across the country and the high school football season is about to start. For some, it’s a relief to get through the grind as the promise of a new season brings hope.

For others, it means a little more.

The camp season outside of high school starts in February, and for some it runs right into the first day of practice.

So how and where do players draw the line?

That depends on who is asked.

Three-star offensive tackle Brady Taylor (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Ready) pledged to sign with Virginia Tech, according to multiple reports. He selected the Hokies over Kentucky.

Taylor is the fifth offensive lineman to choose Virginia Tech for 2014, and he is excited to join the group:

"I talked to them a lot," Taylor told the Roanoke (Va.) Times. "They're all really good kids. I've gotten to know them well. ... It's pretty awesome. Because even if nothing works out and we get to our fifth year, we're eventually going to play together. That's pretty special to have four other kids your age to play with."

Virginia Tech's class is ranked 26th by ESPN RecruitingNation.

Lessons learned: Texas State 7-on-7

July, 13, 2013
7/13/13
8:48
PM ET
LEANDER, Texas -- The 2013 Texas State 7-on-7 Tournament saw a number of college football targets put on a show. It also saw some of the lesser-known players make a case for more publicity.

Graham (Texas) High School won the Division II (small-school) competition, while Southlake (Texas) Carroll claimed the Division I (large-school) prize. Carroll won the first 7-on-7 state tile 15 years ago in College Station, Texas.

Here are five things we learned from the state tournament:

2015 has one over former Carroll QBs

[+] EnlargeRyan Agnew
Damon Sayles/ESPN.comClass of 2015 QB Ryan Agnew showed poise in leading Southlake Carroll's aggressive passing attack to the Division I title.
Southlake Carroll has a tradition of producing quality quarterbacks. Chase Daniel, Greg McElroy and Kyle Padron all have NFL experience, and Daniel, McElroy, Chase Wasson, Riley Dodge and incoming Texas A&M freshman Kenny Hill have won state championships. Ryan Agnew hopes to follow those footsteps.

The 2015 quarterback did something that the others hadn’t, and that’s lead Carroll to the state 7-on-7 title. Agnew connected with receivers such as Luke Timian and Keaton Duhon en route to an undefeated run in the tournament.

Agnew, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound quarterback, has early looks from Northwestern, Iowa State, Texas Tech and Ole Miss.

The Pittsburgh Panthers scored a commitment Sunday from four-star quarterback Wade Freebeck (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas), according to multiple reports.

Akron, Florida, Marshall, Samford and South Florida also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-4, 180-pound pocket passer. Alabama, Arkansas and North Carolina showed interest.

"No matter how much you learn, you really don't know until you visit," Freebeck, who made a trip to campus last week, told the Sun Sentinel. "The city, the coaching staff -- I was feeling good. I'm confident in my decision."

The Panthers have 13 pledges for 2014. Freebeck is their highest-rated commitment.

Louisville continues to build OL with Burns

Three-star Daniel Burns (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) committed Thursday to play for head coach Charlie Strong's Cardinals, according to multiple reports. He's Louisville's third pledge along the offensive line for 2014.

Burns, a massive 6-foot-7, 318-pound blocker, also holds scholarship offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Iowa State, Kent State, Maryland, Miami (Ohio), Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Toledo and West Virginia. Michigan, Northwestern and Wisconsin showed interest.

He registered an electronically timed 5.41 40-yard dash, 5.00 20-yard shuttle, 20-inch vertical, 33-foot power throw and 62.85 SPARQ this spring at a Nike combine.

Louisville currently sits at No. 18 in the ESPN RecruitingNation class rankings. The Cardinals have 18 total verbal pledges.
