HornDamon Sayles/ESPNMesquite Horn won the Camp of Conquerors 7-on-7 Tournament.

CEDAR HILL, Texas -- The second annual Mike Adams Camp of Conquerors 7-on-7 tournament featured 13 of the top 7-on-7 teams in the Dallas area on Saturday. The tournament, put on by the NFL defensive back, gives the opportunity to win $5,000 for the winning 7-on-7 program.

Early Saturday evening, Mesquite (Texas) Horn defeated Cedar Hill to walk away with the championship.

Here is what we learned after the event:

Horn WR the talk of the tournament

Horn all spring has shown that it’s more than quarterback Destri White, Rice cornerback commit Jorian Clark and a talented group of linemen that features Baylor commit Andrew Morris and 2015 standout offensive tackle Conner Dyer. On Saturday, Del’Michael High reminded everyone of just how good he is.

High, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound wide receiver, was borderline unstoppable throughout the tournament, and he was a big reason why Horn went undefeated. In the championship game against Cedar Hill, High was able to score wins in several one-on-one battles, some featuring talented Oklahoma cornerback commit Marcus Green.

High hasn’t been on the recruiting radar, but he showed tools of being one of the top receivers in the state on Saturday. He admittedly said that part of his lack of recruiting exposure might be because of academics, but he added that he’s been focused more than ever to make sure his work off the field is as solid as his work on it.

Illinois secures LB Austin Roberts

AM ET
Class of 2014 inside linebacker Austin Roberts (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) committed Thursday to sign with the Illini, multiple sources report.

Roberts was heavily recruited by non-BCS, FCS and Ivy League schools. Air Force, Army, Central Michigan, Columbia, Harvard, Illinois State, North Dakota State, Pennsylvania, South Dakota State, Wyoming and Yale extended offers to the 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect.

He registered 152 total tackles, seven sacks and an interception during his junior campaign.

Illinois now has six pledges.

LB Matthew Adams says yes to Houston

The Cougars have secured a commitment from 2014 linebacker Matthew Adams (Missouri City, Texas/Hightower), multiple sources report.

Air Force, Boise State, New Mexico, North Texas, Rice, Southern Methodist, Texas Southern, Texas State and Tulsa also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot, 203-pound defender.

Adams does not have any BCS offers at this time, but several programs including Iowa State, LSU, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas and Utah expressed interest.

He posted an electronically timed 4.91 40-yard dash, 4.32 20-yard shuttle, 33.4-inch vertical, 38-foot, power throw and 90.18 SPARQ this spring at a Nike combine.

The Cougars have picked up six of their eight verbals in June.
HOUSTON — Trey Roberts hasn't had too many opportunities to play cornerback, his future position at Oklahoma State.

That's because the 2014 athlete from Houston Eisenhower plays quarterback for the Eagles. But on Saturday, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect, who committed to the Cowboys on Wednesday, got a chance to perform defensive back drills with his future position coach, cornerbacks coach Van Malone, during the Mary Hardin-Baylor/Oklahoma State satellite camp at Cypress Ridge High School.

UH scores big on Saturday

June, 1, 2013

PM ET
The afternoon started with one quality acquisition for Houston.

By sunset, the Cougars had a quartet of offensive weapons in the boat for their 2014 recruiting class from their junior day on Saturday.

After landing Houston Westside receiver Bobby Hartzog to start things off, the Cougars added two Central Texas products in quarterback Bear Fenimore (Austin, Texas/Westwood) and receiver Latrell Martin and finally, a Louisiana product in receiver Steven Dunbar (Metairie, La./Archibishop Rummel).

Dunbar, a 6-2, 185-pound receiver, had offers from Air Force, Kent State, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Northern Colorado and Western Kentucky. He attended Houston's junior day on Saturday and liked what he saw. Perhaps the biggest factor was how he felt about his recruiter, outside receivers coach Brandon Middleton.

"The experience he had, playing at the next level, being an All-American in college, he can help me to reach that or better," Dunbar said. "Also, the opportunity that I have to play and contribute early if I earn my spot is important."

Fenimore summed up the productive day for Houston.

"It was a big day for us," Fenimore said. "I know before today we had some defensive commitments, but to have some more offensive guys is really exciting and the class as a whole is going to be really, really good this year."

Class of 2014 wide receiver Gregory Phillips (Lithonia, Ga./Arabia Mountain) committed Friday to sign with the Purdue Boilermakers, according to multiple sources. He was recruited by Purdue receivers coach Kevin Sherman.

Air Force, Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Ball State, Charlotte, Georgia State, Iowa State, Old Dominion and Western Kentucky also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot, 181-pound prospect.

This spring, Phillips posted an electronically-timed 4.77 40-yard dash, 4.40 20-yard shuttle, 25.3-inch vertical, 30-foot power throw and 60.87 SPARQ at a Nike Combine.

The Boilermakers have three pledges for 2014.
