UK on verge of offering another Ohioan

By Jared Shanker

INDIANAPOLIS -- By the end of the week, Kentucky could have another new offer out to an Ohio prospect.

Westerville (Ohio) South tight end Darryl Long finalized plans to visit Lexington this weekend. He was originally unsure if he would be able to make it, as he only spoke with Wildcats assistant coach Vince Marrow last week. Marrow wants Long to visit this coming weekend, and Long worked it out so that he can travel to Kentucky.

Marrow, who recruits several Ohio prospects, is also the Wildcats’ tight ends coach.

“He liked my film a lot and he was going to offer me soon, but he wants me to come down on the 23rd,” Long said. “He liked the way I ran and likes my size and thinks I can go into their new system of how they do stuff at Kentucky.”

Long was named the MVP among tight ends at the Best of the Midwest combine in Indianapolis on Monday.

Louisville is close to offering Long, too.

The latest offer for the 6-foot-5, 217-pound Long came from Indiana, and he will make it to Bloomington on March 2.

“To see it and meet all the coaches,” Long said he is looking forward to most at Indiana. “I met a lot of the coaches like Coach [Kevin] Johns and the tight ends coach [Seth Littrell] came, so to meet with them and get a good feel for the campus.”

Michigan State is showing new interest in Long, and assistant coach Mike Tressel was at Long’s school during the contact period. Michigan has been interested in Long for quite some time, and Long said he stays in touch with the staff.

“I actually missed Coach [Jerry] Montgomery,” Long said. “He came [to the school] early early and I didn’t have first period, and I talked to him on Facebook and he said they’ll be in contact soon.”
