One school standing out for Whitfield

By Brad Bournival

Marcus Whitfield (Massillon, Ohio/Washington) has offers from Akron, Kent State and Toledo, but he’s looking north for the big one.

A wide receiver that came into his own last season, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior has interest from Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and West Virginia.

If he could land Sparty, it would make him a happy Tiger, however.

He went to Michigan State’s junior day and got to know the lay of the land a little better.

That left Whitfield even more excited than when he left his football hotbed.

“I feel like I’m part of the family,” Whitfield said. “They told all the recruits at junior day they take it pretty slow.

“It would be amazing to get that offer. It’s a really good school. They’re at the top of my list along with a couple other schools like Ohio State and West Virginia.”

Last season, Whitfield recorded 32 receptions for 642 yards and scored five touchdowns. He also returned punts for a 14.6-yard average for the Tigers.
